Short Point Beach is located about 2km from the town centre, on the headland. A magical surfing and swimming beach, lifesavers patrol this beach during holidays. It's also at the mouth to Back Lake, so you can go for a frolic around the lake from here or take a dip in either the lake or the ocean.
There's toilets and picnic tables on the hillside parkland, plus short walking tracks around the lake and headland. One of our most popular beaches - and with good reason.
Key Features:
- Dog Friendly
- Off-leash areas
- Parking
- Public toilets
- Beach access via stairs
- Picnic Areas
- Path to headland outlook
- Suitable for dogs of all ages and life stages
- Great for sniffaris
- For our anxious and reactive dogs - if to busy on the headland the beach is very open and plenty of ninja hide spots if need be
For reactive/anxious dogs we have some advice:
-
Best to avoid the headland walk sections due to number of dogs and people at the following:
- Holiday season
- Weekends
- 9-11am
- 3pm-5pm
- During these times try Back Lake or the beach as they both have more space, entry and exit points and ninja hiding spots (trees, bush tracks and rocks)
